چکیده

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, a comprehensive review is performed on the existing two-channel FIR filter banks as well as on the design techniques proposed in the literature for designing these banks. We concentrate on alias-free banks. These banks can be first classified into perfect-reconstruction and nearly perfect-reconstruction banks. The nearly perfectreconstruction filter banks consist of traditional quadrature mirror filter banks with linear-phase FIR subfilters and the low-delay versions of them where the subfilters are nonlinear-phase filters. In the case of perfect-reconstruction banks, there exist conventional and low-delay biorthogonal banks as well as orthogonal banks. Second, some of the existing design techniques are either simplified or made more effective. Furthermore, a general optimization problem is stated for two-channel FIR filter banks covering all the existing banks as well as nearly perfectreconstruction conventional and low-delay biorthogonal banks. A general-purpose optimization technique is proposed for designing in a similar manner the above-mentioned two-channel aliasfree FIR filter banks. This technique enables us to minimize the maximum of the stopband energies of the two analysis filters subject to the given passband and transition band constraints of the filters as well as subject to the given allowable reconstruction error. With this technique it is straightforward to find tradeoffs between the various factors affecting the performance of the overall filter bank. Several examples are included illustrating the characteristics of the filter banks obtained by the existing synthesis schemes and the proposed design techniques.

Two-Channel IIR/FIR Filter Banks with Very Low-Complexity Analysis or Synthesis Filters: Finite Wordlength Effects

A new class of two-channel IIR/FIR filter banks was introduced in [1] with half-band IIR analysis filters and FIR synthesis filters. This type of filter bank features very lowcomplexity analysis filters and simultaneously a low overall complexity. In this paper, we consider finite-wordlength effects of these filter banks.

New Design of Orthogonal Filter Banks Using the Cayley Transform

It is a challenging task to design orthogonal filter banks, especially multidimensional (MD) ones. In the onedimensional (1D) two-channel finite impulse response (FIR) filter bank case, several design methods exist. Among them, designs based on spectral factorizations (by Smith and Barnwell) and designs based on lattice factorizations (by Vaidyanathan and Hoang) are the most effective and widel...

New technique for design of 2-channel fir paraunitary filter banks

In this paper we obtain a new parameterization of all FIR paraunitary two-channel filter banks. Unlike other approaches which make use of a lattice structure or a cascade algorithm, we show that our technique provides a direct explicit expression of all FIR orthogonal filters, with no need of iteration procedures. Thus, in order to design a L-tap 2-channel paraunitary filterbank, it suffices to...

Two-Channel FIR Filter Banks Based on the Frequency-Response Masking Approach

Abstract – This paper introduces two-channel FIR filter banks synthesized using the frequencyresponse masking approach. The proposed filter banks have a lower computational complexity compared with conventional filter banks, especially when the individual filters have narrow transition bands. One price to pay is a somewhat increased overall delay. A design example is included illustrating the e...

Design of two-channel PR FIR filter banks with low system delay

In this paper, a new approach for designing two-channel PR FIR filter banks with low system delay is proposed. It is based on the generalization of the structure previously proposed by Phoong et al 161. Such structurally PR filter banks are parameterized by two functions a ( z ) and b ( z ) which can be chosen as linear-phase FIR or allpass functions to construct FIMIR filter banks with good fr...
